Acupuncture is a type of medicine that’s been around for 3,500 years and has helped many people. During a treatment, very thin needles, like tiny hairs, are gently placed at specific points on the body. These points affect the body’s nervous system, helping it release natural chemicals like endorphins, which can relieve pain. Acupuncture mainly does two things:
- Increases blood flow to different parts of the body.
- Re-trains your brain to help it heal itself.
At Achieve Health, we’ve developed a special method called the Fast Relief Acupuncture (FRA) technique, which helps us get quick results for our patients. Most of the time, patients feel pain relief right away.
Acupuncture can be done on the arms, legs, scalp, ears, or other areas, so most of our patients don’t even have to take off their clothes. The treatments are quick, comfortable, relaxing, and very effective.
Are acupuncture needles uncomfortable, and is the procedure safe?
Acupuncture needles are very thin, even thinner than a cat’s whiskers. You might feel a tiny sting when the needles are put in.
After the needles are in, you might feel something unusual. Everyone feels different things, but common feelings include heaviness, tingling, numbness, aching, soreness, warmth, or sometimes nothing at all.
If you feel uncomfortable, let your acupuncturist know, and they can adjust the needles. Acupuncture is very safe when done by a trained professional. We use only clean, disposable needles at our clinic. With acupuncture, you get side benefits, not side effects!
How many treatments will be required, and how often will they need to be administered?
The number of acupuncture treatments you might need depends on the type and length of your issue and how quickly you respond to acupuncture. Usually, for acute problems, you might need 3 to 6 treatments to see results. For chronic issues, 10 to 12 treatments might be needed. Remember, if a problem didn’t appear overnight, it won’t disappear overnight.
About 90% of our patients experience significant or complete relief from their pain, women’s health issues, or digestive problems. The sooner you reach out, the sooner we can help you live a pain-free, high-quality life.
I've previously had acupuncture and know it works for me. Why is it necessary to schedule an initial exam?
We’re different from most acupuncture and wellness clinics in how we deliver our treatments. Our special acupuncture technique often provides quick results, with many patients experiencing pain and symptom relief within seconds of needle insertion. However, our treatments might not be right for everyone.
The purpose of the Initial Exam is to set your health goals and see if our clinic can realistically help you achieve them. If we believe we can assist you, we’ll work together to choose the best program for you. If not, we’ll refer you to someone who might be able to help.
Is acupuncture covered by insurance?
Many insurance companies are now paying for acupuncture treatments. Because each insurance company has different restrictions, it is best to consult with your insurance provider to determine if your treatments will be covered.
What steps should I take to prepare for acupuncture sessions?
Please wear loose clothing that allows you to roll up your sleeves to your elbows and your trousers up to your knees. Make sure you have eaten a light meal or snack before arriving for your treatment. Do not wear perfume, cologne, or strong-smelling lotions, as some of our patients have severe allergies, and strong smells can trigger an allergic reaction and affect their treatments.
